Previously they were spending 6000 yuan a month to get rid of nearly a ton of the excrements produced by 40 giant pandas. Now the droppings, sterilized at 300 degrees Celsius are used to manufacture a variety of souvenirs including Olympic-themed sculptures, with 'athletic pandas performing various Olympic sports' and even picture frames. As pandas are fed on a diet of bamboo the souvenirs reportedly don't smell that bad as almost 70% of the dung is undigested bamboo pulp.
